10 Fun Facts (about the copywriter, owner, CEO, project manager, and personal chef behind PCH)

You know the anxiety. You’re sitting in a room full of new people when the leader of the group says, “Okay, that’s enough about me - let’s go around the room and each share one fun fact about ourselves!”

In these moments, my brain freezes with horror as I realize I’ve never done a single fun or interesting thing in my life.

To prevent further embarrassment, I have compiled this list for easy reference in brain-freeze moments. I hope it helps you get to know the face behind Pierce Creative Helm!

ONE

I am from the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. It’s hard to claim one city, because I’ve lived in Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, and Suffolk. Due to a very large military presence, people from all around the country call the Hampton Roads home, which is truly wonderful, until you have to drive anywhere. We all seem to disagree on blinker etiquette.

TWO

My first writing success came in the third grade, when a short story about my cat, Stormy, won my city’s Young Author’s competition.

THREE

In 2018, my husband and I got married in our favorite place in the world, which also happens to be where we met - the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Neither of us is a fan of cake, so we sliced into a giant Reese’s for dessert.

There’s the beauty. Don’t worry, we had real cake for our guests.

FOUR

If you’re familiar with the Enneagram, I am a type 1 - the reformer. What does that mean? I’m an idealist, motivated by improving everything in sight. Some stereotypes? Organized, orderly, high standards, principled. Enneagram 1 in action? Catch it every Tuesday morning while I clean out and rearrange the items in my refrigerator.

FIVE

I could happily eat ice cream every day if I had no concerns about sugar. Preferably Ben & Jerry’s The Tonight Dough.

SIX

In college, I majored in Communication and minored in Psychology and the Digital Humanities. I’ve always been interested in understanding us humans - how we become who we are, why we do the things we do, and how we relate to and communicate with one another. The skills I learned in each of these fields help tremendously when writing for clients.

SEVEN

Dancing makes me happy. I’m a certified Zumba instructor! I haven’t taught in a few years but would like to get back into eventually, whenever we make the switch to 48-hour days.

EIGHT

I am a huge fan of Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, The Wire, The Office, Parks & Rec, and Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and would be happy to discuss any of these for hours at any time, day or night.

NINE

Speaking of Harry Potter, I am a Slytherin - we’re not all evil! Slytherin’s are witty, resourceful, and ambitious. We do what it takes to get things done!

In 2019, my husband and I had the opportunity to work from Hawaii for a few months. It was truly magical and an experience I am so grateful for. If I had to pick one favorite thing we did there (which is nearly impossible), it would be hiking the Makapu‘u Point Lighthouse Trail.

I mean, that view? Can’t beat it.

So, I guess I’ve done a few fun things after all. You next! What is your go-to fun fact about yourself in those dreaded meetings? Tell me in the comments!
